Director of College Counseling
Thaden is proud to welcome Phil Hooper back to his native state of Arkansas as the school’s Director of College Counseling effective July 1. Phil brings a rich diversity of experience from both the college admissions and college counseling perspectives. He has served as the Associate Director of Admissions at Hendrix College and Rhodes College, and as Director of Admissions at Transylvania University. He has also served as the Director of College counseling at Harpeth Hall in Nashville, Hutchison School in Memphis, Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock, and most recently at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia.
Throughout his career, Phil has been active in the Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling (SACAC), serving stints on its executive board and as director of its training program for new college counselors. In 2014, SACAC recognized Phil with the William Starling Award for excellence in professional mentoring. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and the Penn Counselor Advisory Board. Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hendrix College.
