An Arkansas native, Shayla Montelongo comes to Thaden from Bentonville West High School where she taught beginning,  intermediate, and advanced Spanish. She also served as World Languages Department Chair and sponsored a chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the honor society for Spanish. In addition to leading students to competitions and on cultural excursions, Shayla helped students prepare for Spanish scholarship interviews and creative writing publications for the journal, Albricias. She began her teaching career as a Spanish instructor at the University of Missouri where she also led training for incoming graduate instructors, while earning her master’s degree in Spanish. Prior to teaching, Shayla studied abroad in Mexico and obtained bachelor’s degrees in Spanish, English and Secondary Education from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
